JUDA Technology vs Xometry — Direct Manufacturer vs Marketplace

Xometry is a US-based on-demand manufacturing marketplace. They take your RFQ, run an instant-quote algorithm, and route the work to one of several thousand vetted suppliers — many of which are in China, India, or Mexico. JUDA is one of those types of suppliers, but you reach us directly. The question this page answers: when does going through a marketplace make sense, and when does going direct make sense?

This is not a marketing piece. We have lost RFQs to Xometry where Xometry was the right answer, and won RFQs from Xometry-disappointed buyers where we were the right answer. Below is what we have observed across hundreds of comparison quotes since 2020.

When Xometry Is the Right Choice

You need a single supplier-facing invoice for accounting simplicity

Xometry consolidates many suppliers behind one account.

You are a US/EU buyer with no interest in international procurement.

Xometry abstracts the supplier — you do not need to vet, NDA, or communicate with the actual factory.

You need a one-off prototype, fast, and price is not the primary concern.

Xometry’s instant quote is genuinely fast and convenient.

Your engineering team prefers a US-based account manager during US business hours.

You need a mix of services in one PO

CNC, 3D print, sheet metal, injection mold — Xometry routes each line item to the appropriate supplier.

When JUDA (Direct) Is the Right Choice

  • You will reorder. Going direct lets us know your part across orders — we improve programming, tooling, and DFM each cycle. Marketplace rotation loses that institutional memory.
  • Per-part cost matters. On identical parts ex-China, direct pricing is typically 25-40% lower than Xometry. Over 1,000 parts/year, that adds up fast.
  • You have complex DFM challenges. Direct conversation with the engineer who will program your part is faster than mediated communication.
  • IP sensitivity is high. One NDA with one factory beats one NDA with a marketplace that distributes your files to whichever supplier wins the bid.
  • You need detailed traceability and documentation. PPAP, AS9102 FAI, lot traceability — direct supplier relationships make this routine instead of a special request.
  • You need multilingual support outside English. Our sales team handles Hebrew, Spanish, Romanian, Arabic, French, German, Portuguese, Chinese — directly.
  • You want to invest in tooling. Custom fixtures and tooling amortize across orders only when you stay with one supplier.

Side-by-Side Quote — A Real Example

Below is an anonymized comparison from 2026. Customer requested a quote from both Xometry and JUDA for an aluminum 6061-T6 bracket with the following specs:

  • 200 × 100 × 40 mm overall
  • 5-axis machining, 14 features per side
  • ±0.05 mm general tolerance, ±0.02 mm on bores
  • Black Type II anodize
  • Quantity: 250 pieces
  • FAI report required, MTR included

How to Decide

A rough decision tree:

  • One-off prototype, US buyer, no NDA, < $500 total: Xometry is convenient. The premium is small in absolute terms.
  • Repeat order of 100+ parts, > $5,000 total: Get a direct quote. Compare. The marketplace premium is real money.
  • IP-sensitive part: Direct supplier with one NDA, not a marketplace.
  • Need engineer-to-engineer DFM conversation: Direct.
  • Need PPAP/FAI/full quality docs: Direct is faster and cheaper.
  • Multi-discipline order (CNC + sheet metal + 3D print in one PO): Marketplace simplifies. JUDA handles CNC + sheet metal + welding + finishing in one PO, but not 3D print or injection mold currently.

How to Get a JUDA Direct Quote

Frequently Asked Questions

Is going direct to a Chinese CNC supplier safe for IP?

When properly structured, yes. Best practices: (1) Mutual NDA signed before drawing exchange, (2) Verify supplier credentials — ISO 9001, IATF 16949, customer references, (3) Use encrypted file transfer, (4) Keep most-sensitive features separated (some parts of the design machined in-house, only commodity features outsourced). JUDA has worked with Huawei, BYD, Emerson, ZTE, and Mercedes-Benz under these standard precautions for 15+ years.

Why is direct China CNC cheaper than Xometry?

Xometry adds a marketplace markup (typically 25-40%) on top of the supplier price to cover their software, sales, support, account management, and consolidated billing. Going direct eliminates that layer. The trade-off is that you handle the supplier relationship, NDA, communication, and any logistics yourself — which most procurement teams handle routinely.

Will Xometry tell me which factory made my part?

No — Xometry treats supplier identity as confidential. This is by design (it protects their margin and supplier network) but it also means you cannot build a relationship with the actual maker, audit them, or guarantee the same supplier on reorders. If supplier consistency matters to you, direct is the better path.

How does shipping work for direct China CNC?

JUDA offers DAP (Delivered at Place — buyer handles import duty/tariff) or DDP (Delivered Duty Paid — we handle everything). Common shipping: air freight DHL/FedEx for prototypes (3-5 days), sea freight LCL for production batches (3-4 weeks). We provide all export documentation: commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, MSDS if applicable.

What is your minimum order quantity?

No minimum. We machine single prototypes regularly. Per-part cost drops significantly at quantities of 25, 100, and 500 due to setup amortization — we quote tiered pricing so you can see the breakpoints.

Can you handle PPAP and FAI documentation?

Yes. We provide full PPAP under our IATF 16949 certification (all 18 elements) and AS9102 First Article Inspection for aerospace customers. Documentation is delivered with the shipment and stored for the lifetime of the part program.
